The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park has one of the most unique landscapes on the planet, with its white dunes that contrast with the various shades of blue and green of its lagoons.
In a recent study by Bounce magazine, taking into account social media posts, traveler reviews and Google searches, the destination was voted the second most beautiful national park in the world, second only to Kruger Park in South Africa. And to top off its majesty, in July 2024, it was declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
"With breathtaking scenery, crystal clear waters and breathtaking views, we are certain that this is one of the most unmissable travel experiences in our country. And for your stay in this beloved region of Maranhão, we have selected a unique and authentic experience."
OIÁ: the connection with what is essential
In the city of Santo Amaro, 250 kilometers from the capital of Maranhão, São Luís, a new concept of accommodation was launched, valuing local culture and respecting natural settings. This is how the contemporary Brazilian guesthouse OIÁ Casa Lençóis was born.
With a structure that values privacy, the property has only six suites that can be rented separately or on a buy-out basis, with the entire property reserved for families or groups of friends. The main house has a common living area consisting of a living room and a large terrace, and on the upper floor, a 26 square meter suite. Near the house, two other bungalows have two suites measuring 31 square meters each. A new bungalow, with two more suites, will be opened this year.
The project is signed by the office of the brand's designer and creative director, Marina Linhares, who chose as a premise to respect the characteristics of local construction as much as possible, bringing objects full of regionalism and contemporary pieces signed by names such as Neca Abrantes and Lídia Lisboa.
Gastronomy and sustainability
At OIÁ, everything is included in the accommodation: from private tours to full board gastronomic experiences , which include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Valuing the regional flavor, the proposal is to work with ingredients from Maranhão and encourage production from local suppliers, taking into account the sophisticated spirit of gastronomy.
The menu includes dishes such as steamed yellowtail hake with corn crust and mushroom and cashew nut sauce, and Malaysian shrimp, caught in the region's rivers and lakes and served with fresh coconut rice. The drinks menu also reflects the eclecticism and authenticity of the aromas of Maranhão cuisine with options such as the Caipitica de Caju, prepared with brandy made from cassava and cashew nuts picked directly from the property's cashew trees.
To top it all off, OIÁ Casa Lençóis uses sustainable practices in its design, such as renewable energy sources, promoting proper waste management in all facilities, and developing the local family economy. In addition, the enterprise also values traditional culture, prioritizing regional producers in its supply chain and hiring, and training residents to be part of the team.
