I'm a lawyer, a mother of twins, a writer, and the creator of the Instagram profile @mae_le_pra_mim. Children's literature is my great passion, and I created the profile to gather the books we love to read the most. In addition to reading, I've always exposed my children to the world of art, with visits to exhibitions, museums, galleries... and through books.

In today's column, five children's books about art.

1. Maps: Deluxe Edition 

Authors: Aleksandra Mizielinska and Daniel Mizielinski

A great book not only in size but also in proposal: there are 55 double-page maps of 46 countries on 6 continents. With more than 4,000 detailed illustrations, the book aims to show us the world: the mummies of Egypt, the Mayan cities of Mexico, the penguins of Antarctica, the Brazilian golden lion tamarin. A true work of art, through which we can discover and revisit the wonders of our world, from the highest mountains to the smallest insects.

2.  Mamãe vai para a Antártida

   This book portrays first-hand an expedition to Antarctica carried out by 100 female scientists to investigate the climate emergency and encourage changes that could slow the continent's accelerated melting. The author (and mother) studied climatology and cosmology and was selected for this trip, which aimed to search for a more sustainable planet and for more female leadership in discussions on environmental issues. In the book, we get to know this wild, remote continent full of fascinating landscapes and animals with the scientists.

3.  Fevereiro

   It's February. This month, the protagonist boy's house is transformed. Little by little, we get to know the preparations that take place in your home. February announces the renovation of one of the most important carnival blocks in Bahia, Filhos de Ghandy. Curiosity, discovery, flavors, smells and colors…everything reveals itself as the pages turn. A poetry book, with illustrations, a work of art that celebrates the power of traditions and transports us to Bahia.

4. Que planeta é este

   It was a night like any other, when, suddenly, without warning… the whole city went dark. Without electricity and internet, the mother can't work, the father can't cook, the sister can't talk to her friends on the tablet. The screens go off, then a book opens and this adventure begins. We crossed ancient forests in Brazil and seas of a thousand colors in Australia. From Alaska to Papua New Guinea, we are surprised by birds of paradise, alien deserts and the lights of Nordic countries dancing in the sky. A book that takes us to the most beautiful places in the world and invites us to imagine a reality where we would value nature above all else.

5. Sweet People are Everywhere

   A question I frequently receive is: how do I explain to children about different races and cultures? This beautiful book could be a good start. Written by Alice Walker, the famous American writer, poet and feminist activist, the book introduces us to people from all over. And it tells us that nice people are everywhere. The Pulitzer winner's verses for the classic “The Color Purple” make us want to go out traveling, exploring this world and meeting people in every way possible. People very different from us, others more similar. Doing familiar things or things that are completely distant from our reality.
